About Pinecone Mental Health Pediatrics

Are you seeking ADHD diagnosis and treatment for your child? At Pinecone Mental Health Pediatrics, I specialize in diagnosing and managing pediatric mental health conditions for families across the greater San Antonio area, including Uvalde, Devine, Hondo, Dilley, Cotulla, Lytle, Pearsall, and Laredo.

I take a thoughtful, comprehensive approach to care, looking beyond the surface to uncover underlying issues that might otherwise be overlooked. During appointments, I encourage children and teens to share their experiences with symptoms and medications. This collaborative process helps them feel more empowered, reduces frustration, and builds confidence to advocate for their well-being as they grow.

Input from children—together with insights from parents and teachers—is essential in creating a well-rounded treatment plan tailored to each child’s unique needs. As a pediatrician, I also enjoy connecting with kids at their level, making every visit not only meaningful but also engaging and positive.

Medication Treatment

Deciding whether to treat a child or teen’s mental health condition with medication can be challenging, especially when past experiences or stories of side effects cause hesitation. While medications like SSRIs may cause temporary side effects such as nausea or stomach discomfort due to their effects on serotonin receptors in both the brain and GI tract, these usually resolve within weeks. A more common issue is that incorrect dosages cause families to believe the medication isn’t working. Some providers may hesitate to adjust doses due to limited training or caution, but with proper knowledge and careful titration, medications can be used effectively and safely. Teen Mental Health

My mission is to help children and teens in San Antonio, TX, and the surrounding communities manage their mental health with confidence and care. I work closely with young patients to address a wide range of concerns and, when appropriate, recommend medications to ease symptoms such as sadness, anxiety, or difficulty focusing.

Open, honest communication is at the heart of my approach. I encourage patients to share their experiences with symptoms, daily challenges, and treatment effects so we can make informed decisions together. My goal is to empower every child and teen with the tools, understanding, and support they need to navigate their mental health journey. Together, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan that meets their unique needs and helps them thrive.

ADHD & Aggression

Aggression in children and teens is often a symptom of underlying conditions, with ADHD being one of the most common causes, especially when untreated or undertreated. ADHD is more than trouble focusing—it can lead to irritability, low frustration tolerance, and sudden explosive outbursts that are sometimes mistaken for bipolar disorder. These aggressive behaviors exist on a spectrum, from mild defiance to severe physical aggression, and may overlap with other disorders. Because irritability and aggression are so strongly linked to ADHD, stimulant medications are typically the most effective first-line treatment, with an 80–85% success rate when properly prescribed and dosed.
